Job overview
We require an enthusiastic individual who can work within the Portering Services team at the Northern General Hospital and offer flexibility to cover all Portering related tasks including Charge-hand and driving duties.
Main duties of the job
The transfer of patients from all wards and departments, in beds, wheelchairs or Stretcher or via the internal Ambulance NGH ONLY making sure patient is secure to travel.
Move patients with assistance and instruction from professional staff. This includes the occasional movement of patients with valuables under the supervision of the nursing staff.
Transfer deceased patients to Mortuary, ensuring all equipment is clean after use.
Removal of waste from all depts and wards.
Postal duties.
Assist with viewing out of hours. when requested by Duty Matron.
Driving duties plus -Check and clean vehicles as instructed.
Laundry collection / delivery.
Sharpmart deliveries / collection.
Act under instruction from medical/nursing staff in the event of a cardiac arrest or other emergencies i.e. Fire Alert.

Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE grade 3/D or above or equivalent qualification/ experience)
- Effective computer skills

- Evidence of workplace learning

- Experience of dealing with the public.
