Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join the Clinical Research and Innovation Finance Team.  This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is seeking to obtain a broad range of financial skills within the Clinical Research and Innovation arena.

Working under the guidance of the Research Accountant you will undertake a range of tasks, including office supervision, to support the Research and Innovation Finance Team in the provision of comprehensive Financial Management services across the organisation and to regional services which are hosted by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for candidates who are either AAT qualified or CCAB /CIMA part qualified and able to demonstrate a proven track record in financial management and analytical skills.

Candidates will have a track record of supervising staff and a commitment to their own development and of team members.

A high degree of numeracy, good written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to meet deadlines through effective organisational and planning skills are essential to this post.

 

Main duties of the job

To undertake a range of tasks, including office supervision, to support the Research and Innovation Finance Team in the provision of comprehensive Financial Management services across the organisation and to regional services which are hosted by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

To lead in the production of timely and accurate financial reports and supporting information in accordance with best practice, ensuring that the use of resources is optimised.

To contribute to the documentation of standard operating procedures and working practices across Research and Innovation (R&I) monetary management.

To support the production of the annual R&I Financial Plans

To provide financial services for the delivery of R&I projects, including the appropriate management of projects which span financial years in accordance with relevant accounting standards.

As a member of the Financial Accounting Section of the Finance Directorate, the Postholder will is required to undertake specific projects as determined by the Deputy Chief Finance Officer (Financial Accounting) and/or Senior R&I Finance Manager.

They are based at the Northern General Hospital within the Finance Directorate and also embedded within the Clinical Research and Innovation Office, located on the Royal Hallamshire Campus where the team provide out posted support. The team also has close working links with university partners and other NHS Organisations.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • AAT qualified or CCAB/CIMA Part qualified.
  • Demonstrable experience of Research and Management Accounting functions. This includes knowledge of and experience in managing a financial function, working with research programmes in excess of £5m pa.
Desirable criteria
  • Honours Degree
  • European Computer Driving Licence (or equivalent)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Sufficient relevant experience working across a Research Accounting Function and/or Management Accounting Function.
  • Demonstrably good IT skills, including advanced Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of finance and accounting practices, procedures and policies particularly pertinent to the NHS including legislation
  • Staff supervision.
  • Demonstrable experience of manipulating/ interrogating ledger and information systems.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of NHS Financial regime, in particular in relation to research finance.
  • Clinical Research Finance experience
  • Production of budget and/or financial reports
  • A sound knowledge of costing principles.
  • Experience of Integra ledger systems
