Job overview
Applications are invited for the post of Post CCT Clinical Fellow in Coloproctology Inflammatory Bowel Disease Surgery . The appointment is to commence October 2025 or sooner for a fixed term period of 12 months.
MRCS or equivalent is essential. FRCS is essential at the point of commencement in post .The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a ‘training post’, full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of this post are equivalent to an individual holding a Certificate of Completion of Training or have a CCT or equivalent in General Surgery within 18 months of interview.
This Fellowship programme is currently being reviewed for approval under the RCS England Senior Clinical Fellowship Scheme – outcome expected shortly.
Proleptic appointments may be considered up to 2 Years.
Main duties of the job
The aim of this post is to provide further clinical experience and training to an individual who has a sub-speciality interest in colorectal surgery and to allow for exposure to clinical skills in this sub specialty. Colonoscopy sessions will be provided as will elective and emergency operating, outpatient clinic sessions, laparoscopic surgery sessions and joint working with the gastroenterology IBD team.
The fellowship will focus on advanced IBD surgery. The Sheffield colorectal unit is one of the six national units which perform more than 10 ileoanal pouches per year. We also perform a significant number of redo Crohn’s resections and revisional pouch surgery.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Basic Medical Qualification e.g MBBS
- Full Registration with GMC with a licence to practice at the time of application
- MRCS (or equivalent)
- FRCS at the point of commencement in post
Clinical experience
Essential criteria
- General Professional Training in general surgery with experience in the colorectal subspecialty.
- Completed specialist training or have CCT or equivalent in general surgery within 18 months of interview.
- NHS Experience excluding clinical attachment
Desirable criteria
- Experience in colorectal surgery at SpR/StR level
Research
Essential criteria
- Basic Understanding of research methods and statistics
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in research Experience preparing research papers for publication & presentation
Continuous Professional Development
Essential criteria
- Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
Desirable criteria
- Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
Personal attributes
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values
- The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC’ good medical practice (2013).
