Job overview

The opportunity has arisen for an experienced mammographer in breast imaging to apply for a Superintendent Radiographer position within the breast imaging department. The post holder will act as deputy to the Breast Imaging Manager and be line manager for the band 6 and band 4 members of the Breast Imaging Team. 

This post will be based in the breast imaging unit at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital which is part of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS foundation Trust.

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the further development of the breast imaging service and work closely with the Breast Imaging Manager regarding the operational and strategic development within the department.

You will need to hold a BSc in Radiography (or equivalent) and must be HCPC registered. You will be expected to work to the PROUD values and behaviours of the Trust and show excellent interpersonal and communication skills, working effectively as a team player within this busy and rewarding area of patient care.

The department carries out breast screening as part of the NHS breast screening programme and symptomatic imaging including family history and 2 week wait referrals.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a HCPC registered radiographer who has experience working with breast imaging, including working within  the National Health Service Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP), to take on the role of a Superintendent Radiographer within the breast imaging services at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. 

You will be first line management for the radiographers within the breast imaging department. You will be accountable to the Breast Imaging Manager and will work closely with Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP's), Radiographers and Assistant Practitioners to maintain the high levels of service provision by both planning and prioritising when faced with demands on staffing and resources. 

You will undertake appraisals for Radiographers and Assistant Practitioners and monitor mandatory training attendance records, as well as monitor sickness absence reviews in line with Trust requirements and to maintain good compliance with the directorates targets. 

There is an expectation that the post holder will be undertaking some clinical work alongside your management requirements so effective time management is essential.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Hons) Radiography or Diploma of the College of Radiographers
  • HCPC registration
  • UK Post Graduate Certificate in Mammography
  • Recognised teaching qualification or relevant mentorship experience.
  • Evidence of continuing CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Study in management and leadership.
  • Participate in professional lectures, study days and workshops

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post graduate breast imaging experience.
  • CPD Portfolio or relevant evidence.
  • Knowledge of the NHSBSP Quality Assurance equipment tests and standards.
  • Experience of audit, teaching, supervision and appraisals
  • Working knowledge of the National Breast Screening Office Computer System
  • Evidence of self-assessment.
