 We are looking to appoint to a part-time, substantive 5 PA Consultant in Metabolic Bone to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at the Northern General Hospital. 

We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Main duties of the job

This is a rare opportunity for a motivated individual to join a team at the forefront of the Metabolic Bone field. This post is for a consultant, with sufficient experience in a Metabolic Bone associated medical specialty, to join the existing team as a Consultant in Metabolic Bone to further develop their practice. 

The position is 5PAs.

The successful candidate must be registered with the GMC with a valid licence to practice. For further information please visit the GMC website and click on the Registration and Licensing link. You will also have completed Specialist Training (or equivalent) and be entered on the Specialist Register of the GMC, or have a CCT date within six months of the date of interview.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview.
  • If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • RCP Specialist Exam Certificate in a specialty relevant to metabolic bone.
Desirable criteria
  • MD or PhD or equivalent

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the scope of practice of metabolic bone and fracture risk assessment.
  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner, with potential to develop in metabolic bone.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of metabolic bone clinic and/or DXA reporting

Research

Essential criteria
  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
Desirable criteria
  • Publications in Peer reviewed journals.
  • Ideas for future research whilst in post.

Teaching and Training

Essential criteria
  • Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to teach all groups of staff

CPD

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
Desirable criteria
  • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

Management and Administartion

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management

Clinical governance and Audit

Essential criteria
  • Experience in performing clinical audit
Desirable criteria
  • Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project

Personal Attributes

Essential criteria
