An opportunity has arisen to join our team of Nuclear Medicine Clinical Technologists/Radiographers based in Sheffield.

We are recruiting to a Clinical Technologists/Radiographer post in Nuclear Medicine.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team providing Nuclear Medicine (NM) services to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (STH) as well as providing services/support to other Trusts in the local region.

The successful candidate will put patient care at the centre of their work and demonstrate excellent team working skills alongside the larger multidisciplinary team providing Nuclear Medicine services.

Candidates will ideally be registered Clinical Technologists/Radiographer in the nuclear medicine speciality and have demonstrated an ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

 

Main duties of the job

To provide a high quality, responsive Nuclear Medicine service throughout the city whilst maintaining a high standard of patient care, working on a routine basis as a member of a team of nuclear medicine technologists rotating through 3 hospital sites and 4 sub-sections and at other external NHS Trusts for whom STH provide Clinical Technology support.

To obtain the optimum information from each patient investigation to facilitate speedy and accurate diagnosis of their clinical condition.

Maintain a high standard of patient care; ensure the safety, care and wellbeing of each patient (many being seriously ill) throughout their investigation.

Complete training and obtain and maintain a high level of skill knowledge in Nuclear Medicine and apply this to maintain high quality services.

We are looking for candidates that meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on Band 6. 

Applicants that meet the requirements for Band 5 will also be considered, this would be at 3-year fixed term training post, with the expectation that the successful candidate will complete the relevant training within this term. Once training is completed the role would become a permanent Band 6 post.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis if at Band 5 for a period of 3 years due to this being an apprenticeship/training programme. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts.

A learner/applicant must be a UK, EEA, or EU resident for at least the past three years to undertake an apprenticeship training programme.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • (Band 5) Degree in a science or in a Health related subject
  • (Band 5) 2:1or above (or predicted) for entrance to post grad diploma Nuc Med.
  • (Band 5 & 6) BSc Diagnostic Radiography (or equivalent qualification) or working towards.
  • (Band 5) Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registration as a Radiographer, or expect to gain on qualification.
  • (Band 5) An undertaking to pass a post graduate qualification in Nuclear Medicine Technology
  • (Band 6) Postgraduate Diploma or equivalent experience in Nuclear Medicine, Radiopharmacy or equivalent level of knowledge.
  • (Band 6) Evidence of on-going professional development and CPD
  • (Band 6) Postgraduate Diploma or equivalent experience in Nuclear Medicine, Radiopharmacy or equivalent level of knowledge
Desirable criteria
  • (Band 5) Registration as, or qualifications and experience as to enable immediate registration as a Clinical Technologist (Nuclear Medicine) on the Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT) or expected to gain on qualification.
  • (Band 5) Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) Registration as a Radiographer, or expect to gain on qualification
  • (Band 6) Registration as, or qualifications and experience as to enable immediate registration as a Clinical Technologist (Nuclear Medicine) on the Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT).
  • (Band 6) Radiographer - State registration with HCPC

Experience

Essential criteria
  • (Band 5) Good command and understanding of the English language, written and oral.
  • (Band 6) Substantial post-qualification knowledge and experience in clinical Nuclear Medicine with experience sufficient to satisfy the requirements of the Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT) or state registration with HPC.
  • (Band 6) Specialist knowledge and experience in Clinical Nuclear Medicine involving a wide range of investigations including complex and non-routine work
  • (Band 6) Competence in venepuncture, cannulation and IV administration of radiopharmaceuticals.
Desirable criteria
  • (Band 5) Previous relevant experience eg Radiography/Laboratory Medicine/Physiological measurement/Pharmacy etc
  • (Band 5) Knowledge and experience in Clinical Nuclear Medicine or equivalent experience.
  • (Band 5) Experience of radiopharmaceutical production for intravenous administration

Skills and Knowledge

Desirable criteria
  • (Band 5) Competence in venepuncture, cannulation and IV administration
  • (Band 5) Competence in basic life support
  • (Band 5 & 6) Driving licence
