Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint 0.8 WTE Band B Community Dentist. This is a permanent post based within the Community Dental Services team in Sheffield.
Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.
Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd
Provision of a range of dental services in accordance with approved Trust plans and policies. These include treatment of individual patients, prevention and dental health education services, dental screening and training of undergraduate dental students and professions complementary to dentistry.
The remit of the Community and Special Care Dental Service includes provision of dental treatment for clients with physical and/or learning difficulties, mental health problems, medically compromised patients, the dependent elderly (including domiciliary visits), dental phobics, and also care to the general population in areas of poor NHS dental provision.

The community based service aims to be the leading provider of care and education in special care dentistry for vulnerable groups of both adults and children, in Sheffield
Community Dental Services is a clinical directorate of the Charles Clifford Dental Hospital which is a part of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The service comprises of Special Care Dentistry for adults together with a paediatric community service. These are two discrete services both recognised as separate dental specialties by the General Dental Council.
Services are provided from clinics located throughout the city, including special care dentistry, paediatric dentistry, outreach teaching and some salaried general dental services. Clinical facilities include surgeries in special schools for children with severe learning difficulties and surgeries set up to provide intravenous sedation.

- NHS primary dental care performer number (or eligible to obtain one).

Clinical Experience

- Significant experience in dentistry in a primary care setting.
- Experience in delivering prevention-based care.
- Experience of providing care in a domiciliary setting.
- Experience of providing dental care for child and adult patients who are dentally anxious or phobic, including provision of care using sedation.
- Experience of providing dental care for child and adult patients with complex co-morbidities including those with special needs, a learning disability and/or mental health problems and the frail elderly.
- Ability to communicate with confidence with patients and their families, carers, members of the dental team and other health and social care professionals.

- Experience in line managing salaried dentists.
- Experience in using alternative therapies e.g. hypnosis, acupuncture in treating patients.
Management and Administration

- Good presentation skills.
Teaching

- Experience of delegating work to and supervising staff.
