Job overview
The Orthopaedic team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals are seeking to appoint a Post CCT Clinical Fellow in Knee Preservation. The appointment is to commence Feb 2027 for 6 months and Aug 2027 for a fixed term period of 6 or 12 months by mutual agreement. FRCS (Tr&Orth) or equivalent is essential. The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a ‘training post’, full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required. The duties of this post is equivalent to ST8, appropriate to an individual holding a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).
Main duties of the job
This is a six month or one year appointment suitable for a senior Orthopaedic trainee who wants to specialise in Knee Surgery. The successful candidate will work with the three knee Surgeons employed by STHFT (Mr Hampton, Mr Hancock and Mr Stoddard).
As the title suggests, the focus of the department is on knee preservation treatments, including significant exposure to:
• Cartilage surgery
o As one of a handful of cartilage centres in the UK we provide all aspects of chondral surgery, performing Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (ACI) and Fresh Osteochondral Allograft (FOCA)
• Meniscal allograft transplantation
• Complex osteotomy
o Single and double level coronal plane, slope-changing, and rotational (including PSI osteotomy)
• Ligament reconstruction
o Cruciate and collateral reconstruction
o Management of multi-ligament knee injuries
• Patellofemoral instability
o All surgical management provided including trochleoplasty
• High volume partial (UKA and PFJA) knee arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty
• Management of synovial proliferation disorders (synovial chondromatosis/osteochondromatosis and PVNS)

Essential criteria
- Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise
- Qualified medical practitioner (MBBS or equivalent)
- FRCS (Ortho) or equivalent

Clinical experience

- At least 6 months knee surgical experience
- Demonstrate competence in the management of both acute and elective knee surgery
- NHS Experience (excluding Clinical Attachment)

- Interest and experience in research technique
