Job overview
The appointment is to commence 11 April 2026 for a period of 4 months.
MRCS/FRCS (Ortho) or equivalent is essential. The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a ‘training post’, full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required.
The duties of this post are equivalent to ST8 appropriate to an individual holding a Certificate of Completion of Training.
Main duties of the job
This post will provide the trainee with an opportunity to work in an active, well-recognised unit with a good record of presentations and publications.
The trainee will have a very busy and broad clinical workload with many tertiary referrals. Procedures performed regularly range from complex primary and revision of elbow and shoulder arthroplasty, primary elbow and shoulder arthroplasty, arthroscopic stabilisation and rotator cuff surgery, revision cuff surgery with tendon transfers, chronic elbow instability and sports injuries.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practise
- MBBS
- MRCS & FRCS (Tr & Orth)
Desirable criteria
- Distinctions, prizes, awards, scholarships. Higher degrees
Clinical experience
Essential criteria
- Completed Basic Surgical Training in posts approved by the surgical Royal Colleges or approved overseas equivalent
- Successfully completed and gained CCT (by date of commencement in post) on a Specialist Registrar training programme approved by the Royal College of Surgeons
- Demonstrate an ability to progress in chosen specialty
- NHS Experience (excluding clinical attachment)
Desirable criteria
- Competence in pre-operative and post-operative management
- Previous upper limb experience
Research
Essential criteria
- Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
Teaching and training
Essential criteria
- Experience of teaching medical students and junior doctors
Desirable criteria
- Higher teaching qualification
Continuous Professional Development
Essential criteria
- Evidence of continuing professional development in the last 12 months
