Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has an exciting opportunity for a Pension Officer to join its busy Pay and Employee Services Department which provides a full range of Payroll and Pensions services to both the Trust and to other NHS Organisations, along with managing the Trusts’ workforce systems including eRostering and ESR and the Trust's Employee Benefits offerings.

You will be responsible for providing a Pensions service to STH, its Clients and its members, providing members with Pension estimates where required, calculating pensionable pay in line with national terms and conditions and NHS Pension scheme regulations along with processing pension awards for retirees, on the NHS Pensions online portal.  

You will ensure data quality in respect of members pensionable pay, contributions and membership is maintained to the highest standard and recorded accurately.

You be able to demonstrate an understanding of NHS Terms and conditions and the NHS Pension Scheme. You will have had experience of working within a busy payroll and pensions department previously.

Customer service is an important part of the role and candidates must have excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate delivery of effective Customer Service.

You will be required to work under your own initiative by organising and prioritising your own workload and working to strict deadlines. You will work closely as part of a team and will be able to demonstrate strong team working.

Main duties of the job

  • To work within the Pay and Employee Services Team to ensure the delivery and provision of a comprehensive, cost effective and efficient service to STH and other client organisations.
  • To assist the Pensions Manager in the administration of all aspects of work relating to the NHS Pension scheme, ensuring that strict confidentiality is maintained in line with GDPR.
  • Provide information requested by Clients, employees and external organisations, optimising  the use of the ESR, Reporting tools and Pensions Online.
  • Ensure a high level of accurate data quality is maintained and interrogate Payroll and Pensions data to provide this assurance.
  • Ensure the department is working towards best practice and working procedures within the Pensions Department to ensure we can deliver an efficient and accurate service.
  • To be responsible for the processing of an allocated workload within strict time and quality restraints whilst ensuring that correct procedures are followed and that statutory and legislative requirements are applied and maintained.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 2 A-Levels or equivalent recognisable qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • 5 GCSE’s (including Maths and English) at Grade A to C (4-9) or equivalent qualification/experience.
Desirable criteria
  • European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) or demonstrable experience of working with Microsoft Office packages
  • CIPP Pensions Certificate or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working in a specialised integrated HR/Payroll/Pensions department
  • Knowledge and experience of HMRC regulations in respect of payroll and pensions regulations
  • Sound understanding of the Data Protection Act.
  • Knowledge of NHS National Terms and Conditions of service
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NHS pension scheme
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with the national NHS Payroll system ESR (Electronic Staff Record)
  • Experience of ESR Connect software
  • Experience of working with NHS Pensions Online (POL) system
