We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our expanding pharmacy team. Being one of the largest pharmacy departments in the country, the team at Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust comprises of approximately 500 pharmacy staff working across five sites.
Our inclusive & diverse pharmacy department has a strong clinical presence in all areas. We are innovative and forward-thinking and have invested in a host of technical improvements, including robotics and a state of the art, multi-million-pound technical services unit.
We have permanent positions available both within the dispensaries and on our technician rota. The rotational posts include working in the aseptic unit in addition to the dispensaries.
If you do not already have the relevant experience, successful candidates will have the opportunity to progress automatically to a Band 5 Team Leader post once the relevant training and competencies have been achieved. Alternatively, there are many varied career pathways for technicians in our pharmacy department. As job opportunities arise, you will have access to apply for posts that are advertised internally as well as externally.
Main duties of the job
Accredited checking of dispensed medications.
Dispensing medications including controlled drugs and clinical trials.
Mentorship and training responsibilities.
Communicating medicine related information to patients.
After relevant training:
Supervising and organising staff.
Ensuring efficient workflow and prioritisation of work.
In addition rotational duties will also include:
Preparing and processing aseptically prepared products including IV additives, adult and neonatal TPN, cytotoxic and clinical trial materials, in accordance with approved worksheets and SOPs.
Please also note this vacancy is banded dependent upon applicants experience relevant to this post. The banding of the successful applicant/s will start at Band 4 unless applicants meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on Band 5. Training is also provided for candidates who may be hired at Band 4 to move up to Band 5.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BTEC Level 3 Diploma in The Principals and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians or equivalent qualification (Band 4 and 5)
- GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician (Band 4 and 5)
- Evidence of continuous professional development (Band 4 and 5)
- Microsoft Office Packages – evidence of short courses or relevant experience(Band 4 and 5)
- Accredited checking status (Band 5).
- Must be willing to undertake an accredited checking qualification (Band 4)
- Evidence of relevant professional learning and development, preferably to undergraduate level/ or willing to work towards (Band 5)
- Must be willing to obtain Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (Band 4 and 5)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of Labelling and Dispensing (Band 4 and 5)
- Supervisory experience or willing to undertake a range of short courses in HR and management (Band 5)
- Experience of using pharmacy-based computer systems (Band 4 and 5)
- Experience of working as part of a team (Band 4 and 5)
- Excellent customer service skills demonstrable from previous experience working within pharmacy. (Band 4 and 5)
- Ability to demonstrate low dispensing process error rates (Band 5)
- Successful completion of the Band 4 -5 Development Pathway or equivalent experience (Band 5)
- Staff development/training experience (Band 5)
Desirable criteria
