Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced secretary/administrator to join the Sheffield Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Service.  It is an exciting, fast paced environment, working within a supportive and friendly team.

The post is 30 hours a week and is a permanent position.

The successful candidate will be based in the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals SLT service working as a member of the team providing admin support to the SLT teams working in acute, outpatients, stroke, and community. 

 

Main duties of the job

To provide secretarial and administrative support and to ensure effective and efficient maintenance of administrative systems and procedures required by the Speech and Language Therapy Team.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE/O level at Grade C/4 or an equivalent qualification, one of which should be English Language
  • RSA Level III/OCR 3 typing / secretarial qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of secretarial, administrative and clerical tasks
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in the NHS in a medical or patient environment
  • Experience of working with the general public

Further Training

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS Systems
Desirable criteria
  • Good knowledge of TPP system (Systmone)

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages
  • Ability to organise and prioritise a wide range of tasks, meeting deadlines and to work unsupervised
  • Experience of audio typing
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a clear speaking voice
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility in approach to changes in service need
  • Ability to be pro-active, show initiative and take responsibility
  • To maintain and understand the importance of confidentiality in the work environment
  • Ability to understand and adhere to equal opportunities policy
