Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist within the Aphasia Partnership Training (APT) Research Grant hosted by STH.

The post is for one day a week over a 5 year period. 

The successful candidate will have experience of being a PI in Aphasia research.

 

Main duties of the job

Supporting and co-ordinating with Principle Investigators (PIs) across multiple UK NHS Trusts.

Creating aphasia friendly information for research participants for patient and public involvement groups.

To assist with clinical reporting and accurate records of activity.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period until 28/02/2031 due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Relevant professional qualification (1st degree level or equivalent)
  • Evidence of highly specialised continuing professional development in Stroke
  • Evidence of successful completion of post graduate specialist short course up to Masters degree level equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Conversation Partner training
  • Membership of relevant Special Interest Groups

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post-graduate experience
  • Extensive and in-depth experience of relevant clinical area.
  • Experience obtaining informed consent
  • Experience of creating accessible resources for patients with communication difficulties.
  • Experience in working across a range of settings.
  • Experience of working with relatives and carers.
  • Evidence of multi-disciplinary team working.
  • Experience of service evaluation including outcome measurement, evaluation, identification of possible funding sources, writing reports/ bids
  • Experience of managing multiple competing projects to time and target, within research or other relevant field.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of acting as a PI in aphasia research trials.
  • Experience of completing clinical report forms in trials

  • Ability to transcribe speech and familiarity with conversational analysis notation
  • Knowledge of supported conversation and accessible information principles/ research
  • Knowledge of conversation analysis principles/ interaction
  • Knowledge and application of professional standards and code of conduct
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance, audit and required standards of record keeping
