Job overview
This role is based on Ward Chesterman 3 at the Northern General Hospital.
The Ward Assistant will be expected to work as part of the ward team under the direction of the Nurse in Charge. They will facilitate the discharge of patients from the ward area in line with the Trust standards and policies.
The post holder will liaise and communicate effectively with relatives, community colleagues, other allied health professionals and medical/nursing staff.
Main duties of the job
Record information as required in various clinical documents such as Lorenzo, clinical notes e.g. admission information, discharge information.
Input onto information systems e.g. patient investigations and obtain results as appropriate.
Liaise with Nurse Coordinator on ward and members of MDT to facilitate safe and timely discharges.
Ensure that all patients and their relatives are aware of the expected date of discharge.
Ensure that extended delays are escalated to the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse for further action.

Essential criteria
- GCSE Maths and English C/4 or equivalent qualification/experience
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in healthcare or admin related role
- RSA Level 2 or equivalent qualification/experience
Desirable criteria
- Qualification in use of Microsoft Office e.g. word, excel
Experience

- Extensive working in an acute care environment
- Use of IT in the workplace
- Ward experience
- Administration experience
