Job overview
The appointment is to commence 5th August 2026 for a fixed term period of 12 months. FRCS(T+O) or equivalent is essential. The post does not award a National Training Number. As this post is not recognised as a ‘training post’, full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required, and if the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required.
The Foot and Ankle Fellowship is specifically designed for a Senior Trainee with FRCS (T+O) who has already resolved to specialise in aspects of Foot and Ankle surgery.
This post is aimed at Post CCT trainees who want fellowship experience in Foot and ankle surgery for both elective and traumatic conditions
Main duties of the job
The clinical aspects, research and other duties undertaken will be directed by Miss Carolyn Chadwick, Mr Howard Davies, Mr Bobby Siddiqui and Mr Donatas Chlebinskas who have responsibility for the clinical management of adult foot and ankle surgical conditions in Sheffield. The scope of work covers all aspects of foot and ankle surgery including arthroplasty, complex hindfoot reconstruction, arthroscopy, diabetic foot conditions and complex trauma.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practise
- Qualified Medical Practitioner FRCS (Tr & Orth)
Desirable criteria
- Distinctions, prizes, awards, scholarships. Higher degrees
Clinical governance and audit
Essential criteria
- Evidence of completed audit/QI project
Clinical experience
Essential criteria
- At least 12 months Foot and ankle experience
- Demonstrate competence in the management of foot and ankle patients – Elective and trauma
- Experience of working in the NHS
Research
Essential criteria
- Evidence of peer reviewed publication relevant to Foot and ankle surgery, Basic understanding of research methods and statistics
Desirable criteria
- Ideas for future research whilst in post
Teaching and training
Essential criteria
- Interest in training clinical and surgical skills Experience of teaching medical students and junior doctors
Desirable criteria
- Higher teaching qualification
Continuous Professional Development
Essential criteria
- Evidence of continuing professional development in the last 12 months
