Consultant in General Medicine with Specialist Interest in Diabetes

Consultant

Job overview

We are pleased to offer this opportunity to join the Diabetes, Endocrinology & General (Internal) Medicine team at the University Hospital of North Midlands (UHNM).  Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Diabetes & Endocrinology / General Medicine, providing expert diabetes patient care at UHNM, serving a catchment population across Staffordshire, Leek Moorlands and North Shropshire.  Tier 4 Endocrinology clinics, as well as Tier 3 Diabetes clinics within the CCG, responsibility of under-graduate and post-graduate teaching programmes as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicants will join the Diabetes, Endocrinology & General (Internal) Medicine team doing a variable split of Diabetes & Endocrinology and General Medicine. We currently run 2 acute general medical wards at Royal Stoke (Wards 121 & 122) and 1 acute general medical ward at County (Ward 14), where most of the patients (32 beds/ward) with acute metabolic diseases are admitted under the consultant team, supported by junior and middle grade staff. A full range of secondary and tertiary outpatient diabetes & endocrine clinics is delivered at UHNM. UHNM Consultants also deliver the community diabetic clinics in Staffordshire & Stoke on Trent, building on the large number of consultant-led community diabetic clinics established over the past 10-15  years at these locations.

Working for our organisation

Located in Stoke-on-Trent just off the M6, culturally diverse major conurbations and the rural delights of the Peak District National Park are all within easy reach. The Trust is similarly stimulating. Employing around 11,000 staff, it has over 1,450 beds and a budget of £700 million. UHNM has made exceptional progress in the re-provision of health care services; the 90-acre site in Stoke has recently undergone a £350 million redevelopment to modernise its facilities, as has County site.

Our on-site Undergraduate Medical School (UGMS) is run in partnership with Keele University. The specialties of Diabetes & Endocrinology and General Medicine are well represented in the new Keele curriculum.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
