We are offering a unique opportunity for a Nurse Consultant to join our CAMHS Intensive Support Team (IST) while also providing clinical leadership support across Core CAMHS. Main duties of the job
- You will be required to work autonomously and be accountable for clinical nursing care across Child & Adolescent Mental Health services, predominantly Crisis and Intensive support services (CAMHS C&IST) and Core CAMHS. These are services for those CYP with the most complex clinical risk in the community and the role will provide leadership in clinical decision-making and care planning, and for professional nursing standards and leadership.
- You will initiate and take the lead on agreed projects to improve clinical effectiveness and efficiency in areas where nurses play a major role, which could include wider CYPMH nursing services.
- Safe and effective prescribing practice as a non-medical prescriber. The post may also provide leadership for adherence to best practice guidelines for NMPs across the services
- Undertaking independent comprehensive assessment and management, of young people open to the service. This will include the completion of advanced risk assessment and management to ensure the promotion of the safety and well-being of CYP & families. This will incorporate systemic (family, social & educational), psychiatric, physiological, psychological and pharmacological considerations, requiring the post holder to make multifaceted complex clinical decisions regarding

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- Registered Mental Health Nurse
- Masters level qualification (Level 7) in advanced clinical practice or equivalent clinical Masters qualification
- Approved Clinician Status as approved by the Secretary of State
- Quality Improvement qualification
- Independent and supplementary prescribing qualification
- Physical healthcare assessment qualification
- Therapeutic psychological interventions qualification
- Specialist and highly advanced knowledge across a range of clinical procedures and policies
Desirable criteria
- Professional Doctorate
- Professional Nurse Advocacy Qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant and in-depth post qualifying clinical experience with CYP and those with complex presentations in the community
- Evidence of working effectively at a senior level in a multi-disciplinary health and social care setting (mental health)
- Experience of working with a range of statutory and non-statutory agencies
- Experience of engaging in service development activities
- Evidence of promoting research, evidence based practice, clinical excellence and quality approaches to support outcome focussed care
- Experience in facilitating learning within clinical practice
- Experience of managing, supervising and supporting nursing teams
- Experience of the administration and management of medicines according to policy and local protocols
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in an in-patient mental health setting
- Experience of working in CYP crisis / Intensive support service models
- Experience in implementing service development including working with co-production and participation models
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of various approaches to mental health assessment
- Knowledge of the principles of Care Co-ordination
- Comprehensive understanding of the Clinical Core Competencies for CAMHS
- Awareness of basic research methodology
- Awareness of key factors that impact CYP & families such the Impact of Trauma, Adverse Childhood Events, Attachment on the experience of CYPs, and particularly those in the ‘Looked After’ Care system
- Knowledge/awareness of relevant legislation and guidance including the Childrens Act (2004) Mental Capacity Act 2005, the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended), The Community Care Act (1990), The Human Rights Act (1998), The National Service Framework and Clinical Governance
- Skills in assessing, planning and evaluating complex mental health care/treatment interventions for CYP
- Skills in writing and presenting reports
- Expertise in psychosocial interventions, including Early Signs Monitoring, and relapse prevention planning for CYP
- Skills in interacting therapeutically with CYP who have a range of presenting needs including Neurodevelopmental needs
- Skills in managing the physical as well as mental healthcare needs of the client group
- Skills in co-ordinating complex care packages
- An ability to coordinate and deliver teaching programs and skills in teaching and assessing
- An ability to co-ordinate, develop and deliver a program of health promotion interventions to CYPs, there family and multi agency staff (Education/ Social Care)
- An ability to work independently and within a team
- An ability to use digital technology and platforms, email and basic word-processing skills.
