Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join Midlands Partnership University Foundation Trust as a valued Speciality Doctor, providing medical input into the Community Paediatric multidisciplinary team in the Children and Families Care Group.

The post is based across clinics including The Bridge, Stafford, Cannock and Lichfield according to service need.

You will support a team based multi-disciplinary community paediatric service for children and young people who are vulnerable due to disability, developmental delay, neuro-developmental problems, disease and/or disadvantage and to work at various sites within the West team.

You will be required to assess, diagnose, review progress and provide on-going care for children on the caseload. This will include working in clinics and school settings as appropriate.

This includes general community paediatric assessment for children who are thought to have two or more neuro-developmental problems, and investigations and diagnosis and management of children referred into the service. This includes identification of child’s strengths and difficulties and coordination of care packages to meet needs, including concurrent conditions and supporting Early Help and Team Around the Child meetings as appropriate.

You will join an experienced, creative, highly skilled and professional multidisciplinary team working to maintain a seamless model of service delivery for children and young people in the south of Staffordshire.

 

Main duties of the job

  • Manage administrative aspects of the post effectively.
  • To participate in Clinical Governance. This includes dealing with complaints, identifying and reporting serious untoward incidents, clinical audit and fostering effective clinical practice
  • To support and provide training/supervision for non-medical staff and students.
  • To work alongside the medical adviser for adoption to provide medical advice for children who are looked after and undergoing process of adoption, adult health medical advice for prospective adopters and attendance in regional adoption panels.
  • To keep patients fully informed of their prescribed medication, its purposes, positive effects and any likely ill effects.
  • To reduce vulnerability and empower patients towards making positive choices.
  • To initiate and maintain regular assessment and management of risk.

Person specification

QUALIFICATIONS, ELIGIBILITY & FITNESS TO PRACTICE

Essential criteria
  • MRCPCH by examination or Equivalent
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Evidence of achievement of ST1/CT1 equivalent competences in General Paediatrics at time of application and likelihood of achieving ST2/CT2 level competences by commencement in post
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in community paediatrics is desirable but not essential provided there is a willingness to work towards gaining experience in managing community paediatric conditions under supervision (includes child protection for physical abuse).

CLINICAL SKILLS

Essential criteria
  • Relevant specialty clinical knowledge and experience: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to community paediatrics.
  • Clinical judgement: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need
  • Practical skills: shows aptitude for practical skills, required in the job
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of Schedule of Growing Skills assessment tool or equivalent tools for developmental assessment.
