Job overview

This is an exciting new post for  a Locum Consultant Cardiac Surgeon to join the existing team.

This post is based at University Hospital of North Midlands.  

Main duties of the job

The Heart Centre at RSUH is a regional hub for cardiology and cardiothoracic care. Based in the a £370m hospital complex, its facilities, large consultant team and dedicated staff offer attractive treatment options to patients from across the Midlands and North of England including Shrewsbury, Telford, Crewe, Stafford, Macclesfield, Burton and Derby . Our mission to Care, Achieve and Innovate is demonstrated in our reputation for innovation, teaching and research and high quality patient care.

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver clinical services encompassing all aspects of cardiac surgery excluding transplantation. The candidate will also be expected to have substantial experience in dealing with urgent inpatient work and Reoperative cardiac surgery. The successful candidate will participate in the Consultant cardiac surgical on-call rota, currently 1:5.

RSUH is a Major Trauma Centre and the post holder will be expected to provide Cardiothoracic Surgical support for that service.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration
  • FRCS or equivalent
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following: • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) • Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) • European Community Rights
Desirable criteria
  • Other higher degree (PhD, Masters)

clinical experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous substantial operative experience in a Locum consultant position
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with handling Complex inpatient urgent workload. Reoperative cardiac surgery experience

Academic Achievements

Essential criteria
  • Experience of conducting clinical audit
Desirable criteria
  • Publications, presentations and previous audit projects.

Professional and Multidisciplinary Team Working

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues and within a team
  • Attendance at MDT meetings

Management and Administrative Experience

Essential criteria
  • Good leadership skills, communication and interpersonal skills
