Job overview

The Failsafe Officer will be responsible for monitoring and validating the outpatient (OPWL) and inpatient (IPWL) waiting lists within the Ophthalmology Department. This role will ensure that the waiting lists are accurate, up-to-date, and that patients receive timely treatment. The post-holder will support the Junior Operations Manager with generating and managing reports related to patient activity and waiting times.

This role will be instrumental in maintaining the efficiency of the Ophthalmology Department, ensuring patients receive timely care and that operational processes run smoothly.

Main duties of the job

  • Regularly review and validate both outpatient and inpatient waiting lists (OPWL and IPWL) to ensure accuracy and compliance with departmental standards and operational guidelines.
  • Contact patients to confirm, reschedule, or reorganise their appointments in line with departmental requirements and available resources
  • Liaise with clinicians, management teams, and other departments to highlight any issues or concerns regarding patient waiting lists and overall patient activity.
  • Assist in generating regular reports on waiting list activity, ensuring timely and accurate data is provided to senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant NHS policies, patient safety standards, and quality assurance protocols
