The Learning Disabilities team within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin have a wonderful opportunity for Clinical / Counselling Psychologist. This is a permanent post working 37.5 hours per week based in Shrewsbury

The Learning Disability team work with children and young people with a Learning Disability (LD) who present with behaviours of concern and/or mental health difficulties. The Intensive Support Team work with a small group of children and young people with an LD and/or autism who present with behaviours that pose significant risks to themselves or others, who are at further risk of experiencing a breakdown within the family or educational setting.

In the role you will be supporting with the provision of a therapeutic psychological service, working closely with CYP with an LD and/or autism and their families and the systems around them. 

The role will incorporate specialist psychological assessment leading to psychological formulation, interpretation of assessment instruments and formation of intervention plans, and the delivery of interventions.

Flexible working across the service is available, based on you individual needs.   A split post with another vacancy within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin will also be considered.

This post is an 8a post, however, a Band 7 preceptorship will also be considered.

 

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  •  Provide specialist psychological assessments to CYP with a LD and/or autism who are presenting with behaviours of concern and/or mental health difficulties, &, within the areas of agreed responsibility, contribute to the interpretation & integration of complex data from a variety of sources.
  • Evaluate & make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical & therapeutic models & highly complex factors concerning historical & developmental processes that have shaped the young person, parents or family/carers. 
  • Be responsible for implementing a range of therapeutic interventions for individuals, families & carers, adjusting & refining psychological formulations, drawing upon different psychological models & informed by a Positive Behaviour Support approach.
  • Communicate in a skilled & sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation & treatment plans of clients under their care & to monitor progress during the course of their treatment within the service
  • Communicate highly complex & potentially highly contentious information in a highly skilled & sensitive manner in situations with patients who may be extremely hostile or highly emotional requiring the highest level of communication skills.
  • Where designated, you will supervise Assistant Psychologists and other staff as appropriate. There will also be an opportunity to utilise research skills for audit, policy & service development & research within the area served by the team/service.
