Senior Maintenance Assistant

Job overview

The role will be responsible for carrying out maintenance duties for locations throughout the Trust.  Maintain buildings and equipment at Hospitals, GP surgeries, Health Centres, Resource Centres, Offices etc.

(Additional Recruitment & Retention Payment of 15% of Basic salary applicable to position)

Main duties of the job

Main duties and responsibilities;


1. Carry out the inspection, servicing and maintenance of equipment, premises, plant, equipment, 
systems and tools, for which training will be provided.
2. As instructed by supervisor, carry out planned preventative maintenance tasks, reactive/remedial 
repair works as per competency and assist in planning works. 
3. Undertake support worker duties when required to ensure essential continuity of services in line 
with individual’s skills, abilities and competence. Examples include but not limited to:
o Water Flushing
o Grounds maintenance including snow clearing and gritting
o Water temperature checks
o Painting support
o Two-man working support
o Radiator / Fan cleaning
o Lamp/light tube / bulb replacements
o Fire alarm and emergency light testing
o Meter reading
o Drain and gutter clearing
o PAT testing
o Ladder / Step checks (Inspector)
o Access arrangements (Chaperoning Contractors)
o Lift Inspection
o Basic plant maintenance (e.g. softener salts)
o AHU filter replacement

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • To have an understanding of a range of maintenance work procedures
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience of working in a similar role or discipline

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of activities within the property maintenance field
  • Experience, understanding and appreciation of trades performed within Estates
  • Experience of working in a similar role or discipline
  • Experience and ability to undertake a wide range of related trade maintenance installation and repairs.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in the NHS
  • Experience of using computerised maintenance systems

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Communicate appropriately with others at work
  • An appreciation of technological advances in the field of Estates
  • Awareness of Health and Safety issues applicable to role
  • Understanding an appreciation of method statements, risk assessments and safe working procedures applicable to the role
