Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dietetic assistant practitioner to join our Specialist Eating Disorders Service to provide support to ensure the delivery of evidence-based interventions and outcomes in the Adult Eating Disorders Service.
Working in partnership with the registered dietitians to support dietetic interventions across inpatients and outpatient’s services.
We are currently looking to recruit a highly skilled and enthusiastic assistant practitioner to join our eating disorders team. We are looking for someone with an interest in eating disorders, a commitment to high quality clinical care, who is looking for the next opportunity in their career development.
The successful candidate will be based on the inpatient unit at St Georges Hospital – Stafford and will also input to the outpatient’s service in Stafford and Shrewsbury, providing innovative treatment to bring about long-lasting change and recovery for patients with eating disorders.
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, self-motivated and innovative individual with a genuine interest in working in the specialist field of eating disorders to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and assist the Dietitians in the provision of the service.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be part of the Specialist Eating Disorder (Adult Dietetic) Service, assisting in the provision of a comprehensive and holistic service for service users referred into the team.
The role requires the post holder to work in a variety of settings within the Trust, including virtually, clinics, day care, the patient’s home etc.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To support registered dietitians to assess patients. To contribute to the development and implementation of programmes of treatment/ care/ support for individuals, families and carers under the guidance of a registered dietitian.
The care/support plans may include the following:
• Promoting independence/self-management and maintaining safety
• Increased functional ability
• Improvement in health and wellbeing including mental health
• Interventions in disease/condition management
• Overcome barriers to understanding, e.g. patients’ with hearing or cognitive impairment
• Prevention and reducing of health inequalities
• Exchanging factual information, reassurance, tact and empathy.
• Admission avoidance
• Early supported discharge
• Contribute to case management/ treatment /care plans
Person specification
Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- Educated to minimum GCSE level or equivalent grade A-C, including English.
- NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care.
- Higher apprenticeship level 5/Foundation Degree or equivalent in related subject or a willingness to work towards achieving this.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant placements/experience to the role including supporting or contributing to assessment and management of dietetic conditions in particular eating disorders.
- Ability to manage time and caseload effectively.
- Experience of working with patients with dietetic conditions.
Desirable criteria
- Working in a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience of working in a variety of community settings including patient’s homes.
- Previous experience of working as a dietetic assistant.
