Job overview

An opportunity has arisen within Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills to support the Directorate of Estates & Facilities. 

Reporting to the Estates Manager, the post holder’s main duties will be to:

  • Ensure compliance in accordance with all MPFT Health, Safety & Wellbeing Policies, relevant NHS Technical Guidance, Process and Procedures, Statutory Regulations, Approved Codes of Practice and any applicable aspects of HTMs.
  • To oversee the day-to-day operation of the estates operational team, including planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs. To also include completion of all detail and reports as required using the Micad CAFM system.

Main duties of the job

  • Can implement new standards and lead change to manage continual improvement.
  • To conduct quality audits of works to ensure minimum organisational standards are met and maintained and to take immediate corrective action when required where audits do not meet such standards. To undertake toolbox talks and lead health & safety compliance across teams.
  • Meet with clients and contractors to ensure works are delivered to organisational standards and where applicable to resolve first line customer complaints or (when appropriate) escalate to immediate line manager with a view to providing accurate information/recommendations for corrective action to be taken.
  • Responsible for the supervision, health, safety, and wellbeing of the maintenance team.
  • Undertake and support own staff in fault finding on structural building fabric, fire doors, roofing, drainage, security or other critical systems and equipment.
  • To maintain effective site logbooks where required at NHS premises, ensuring that they are completed in a timely and accurate manner. To carry out audits to ensure that site logbooks are completed by the team/contractors etc and that records are accurate and up to date.

Skills and Experience:

Previous experience in a similar Estate’s building bias operational role would be an advantage, as would previous NHS experience.

You must have the ability and willingness to work flexible hours including over time and call outs as workload demands.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in the use of planned maintenance system.
  • Experience of maintenance management utilising both direct and contract labour

  • Specialist knowledge of core standards within Estates.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Health and Safety or/and relevant qualification
  • Experience of Scheme Design and Contract Management within the NHS Full appreciation and understanding of all areas and departments within Facilities and Estates
  • Experience of managing hospital engineering systems in healthcare premises, and HTM requirements.
  • Conversant with methods of maintenance works and services procurement and contract management.
  • Budgetary control of an estates operations budget.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Relevant professional qualification in Estates related discipline, Electrical, Mechanical or Building discipline or comparable proven practical experience (equivalent level of knowledge Diploma level with significant experience)
  • Relevant Supervisory Management qualification or comparable proven practical experience
  • Significant experience of working in a similar role or discipline
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in the NHS
  • Relevant professional membership(s)
  • Committed to continuous management/professional development e.g. Authorised Person training to develop competence in areas such as Electrical/Water Safety.
