We are excited to offer an internal development opportunity for a motivated and highly experienced Band 3 Occupational Therapy Assistant to progress into a Band 4 role within our dynamic and supportive Children’s Occupational Therapy team.
You will need level 5 or foundation degree knowledge in a relevant area or be willing to undertake further training to support competencies in the role. This is an ideal role for someone participating in the apprentice OT training.
This Band 4 position reflects the growing complexity and responsibility within the assistant role. You will work closely with Occupational Therapists to deliver high-quality, child-centred interventions, supporting children and young people with a range of functional and developmental needs.
You will be delivering and adapting therapeutic intervention in homes, schools, and clinic settings. Supporting assessment and carrying out secondary assessment, treatment planning through observation and activity analysis.
You will need to manage a delegated caseload, run groups and provide teacher training sessions in relation to individual clinical needs with appropriate supervision.
What will provide a supportive team environment with regular supervision and CPD opportunities. Access to training tailored to the Band 4 role.

Main duties of the job
Working under the direction of registered Occupational Therapists, you’ll help deliver, implement, and evaluate therapy plans in a variety of settings including homes, schools, nurseries, and community centres. You’ll use your clinical skills and judgement to assess progress, adjust interventions, and provide essential support to families and carers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting therapy delivery with minimal supervision
- Undertaking assessments and environmental visits
- Educating families and professionals on safe equipment use and therapy techniques
- Managing a delegated caseload and prioritising care effectively
- Liaising with multidisciplinary teams, external agencies, and families
- Supervising or guiding junior staff where appropriate
You’ll play a vital role in promoting best practice, supporting service development, and helping children achieve their goals in daily living. The role requires excellent communication, strong organisational skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

- Higher apprenticeship Level 5 or Foundation degree in subject
- Evidence of/willing to undertake training relevant to post
Experience

- Experience in assessment/contributing to individuals with PD/OT requirement
- Ability to manage time and caseload
- Working in a team
- Experience of working with children with additional needs in healthcare setting
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in AHP profession
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary team

- Understanding of IG, data protection, HCPC, safeguarding vulnerable children
