An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Specialist Eating Disorder Service. We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, self motivated and innovative individual with an interest in specialising in this field of adult mental health.

Ideally we need someone who enjoys a challenge, and is able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Your role will be to assist in the planning, implementing and evaluating the holistic care afforded to our patients, supporting them at meal times and throughout their stay within the unit.

The successful applicant will have met the required elements set out in the person specification and will be able to demonstrate a high level of verbal and non verbal communication skills. A degree of flexibility in approach is required along with a willingness to learn whilst working in an environment that can at times be challenging.

You will be based at the Kinver Centre in Stafford, working shift patterns that will include rotation onto nights and weekends.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Support Worker role is to assist qualified nurses in the delivery of direct care to clients. Clinical Support Workers are to work under the direction of a qualified or senior nurse and shall only operate under their own initiative when significant risk is apparent and delay in seeking support or advice would increase that level of risk.

Clinical Support Workers have a vital role to play in observing client actions and interactions and reporting these in a clear and concise manner to qualified staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Duties
· To act at all times in a manner that does not bring the Trust or the profession of nursing into disrepute.
· To support qualified nurses by undertaking directed tasks or the monitoring and reporting back activity.
· To bring to the attention of a qualified nurse any action or activity that is likely to place the client or ward visitors at risk.
· To maintain safe boundaries with clients and visitors.
· To maintain appropriate liaison with associated professionals, ensuring that all observations of relevance are relayed in a concise and timely manner.
· To assist or act on behalf of those clients who cannot maintain their own personal health / hygiene and well being.
· Has a basic understanding or willingness to learn about Naso Gastric (NG) feeding / PEG feeding.
· Has the ability to support the qualified member of staff with setting up NG feeds / PEG feeds and monitoring them.
· To assist clients in the maintenance of activities of daily living, as requested by the nurse or client.
· To act as the clients advocate if they lack the capacity or ability to do so for themselves.
· To listen, be supportive and empathetic to all clients.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Is keen to undertake basic training in order to ensure that continuous learning takes place.
Desirable criteria
  • Possess or be willing to work towards an NVQ (Level 2 – Health).

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Has previous care experience.
  • Is keen to access knowledge and develop skills in supporting clients with complex eating disorders.
  • Possesses a basic knowledge of the nature and symptoms of anorexia nervosa.
  • Has experience of supporting people who may present with challenging behaviours.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Communicates effectively, both verbally and in written form.
  • Possesses listening skills and a strong client centred value base.
  • Has the capacity and is willing to work shifts, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
