Employer heading
Cons Radiologist interest in Uroradiology / Non-vascular Intervention
NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
Job overview
An exciting opportunity to join a team of 48 WTE Consultant Radiologists, including 5 substantive Consultants with sub-specialty interest in Genito-urinary (GU) and a team of substantive consultant radiologists delivering a non-vascular intervention service.
The department performs and reports approximately 400,000 examinations per annum, with a high proportion of complex imaging and procedural radiology.
Working in an Acute Teaching Hospital with a strong commitment to clinical excellence, teaching and research, and a high-quality patient experience affords exciting opportunities for a motivated candidate.
Main duties of the job
At UHNM the cross sectional radiologists work closely with their colleagues in the Surgical and Medical Directorate through cancer MDT meetings and joint clinico-radiological meetings.
In Urology: Oncology and benign MDTs are established, that also includes an adrenal/endocrine MDT, with cover in rotation between all relevant radiologists. The Urology Cancer MDT also links, partly with Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust to discuss patients.
As well as cold reporting sessions specific to Urology work, the applicant would be expected to support the acute imaging service with a weekly acute CT reporting session. In addition, there may be opportunities to contribute to gynaecological imaging reporting.
Areas of recent service improvement include expansion of a static PET scanner (with recent addition of PSMA scanning) and 3T MRI with acceleration software. UHNM was one of the early adopters of pre-biopsy MRI for prostate cancer.
The successful candidate would be expected to support an acute image guided intervention service (shared with 6 other consultant colleagues) and also to contribute to delivering in-patient and out-patient speciality-specific interventional procedures (biopsies, aspirations, drainages).
Working for our organisation
The University Hospital is the main teaching hospital for the Keele University Undergraduate Medical School and there are close ties with the University of Keele and Staffordshire University.
UHNM has a robust diagnostic imaging training programme, as part of the West Midlands Deanery. There are around 42 post-graduate doctors in training (PGiT), as well as at least one Foundation Doctor. The on-call services are well supported by the PGDiT 24/7. To support training there is the award-winning West Midlands Imaging Academy based between both sites, offering a range of state-of-the-art simulators for US and interventional procedures together with rooms of dedicated workstation linked with the latest audio-visual equipment. The Imaging Academy has recently launched the first dedicated training programme for mechanical thrombectomy in England. Keele University Medical School has a radiology curriculum, with medical students rotating through the department.
Working in an Acute Teaching Hospital with a strong commitment to clinical excellence, teaching and research, and a high quality patient experience affords exciting opportunities for a motivated candidate.
Opportunities may exist for flexible working, extended working day and weekend working and additional PA's, depending on service need.
