Deputy Ward Manager

Job overview

An exciting opportunity for Band 6 Deputy ward manager   has arisen to work as part of the Senior Team on a dynamic fast pace specialised surgical unit.

The Day Surgery Unit is a 44 bedded unit incorporating all surgical specialities including; vascular, breast, gynaecological, urology, ophthalmology, maxo-facial, plastics, general surgery and ENT. The unit predominately provides care for a high volume of day case surgical patients making the unit fast paced and very varied. The unit also has a facility to accommodate patients requiring a 23 hour stay in hospital and supports other surgical wards. Unique to the unit is our nurse led discharge pathway; which allows nursing staff to use their judgement alongside surgically instructions to safely discharge patients.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work as part of an experienced  Senior team delivering a high standard of care and support to the staff within the unit and the Band 7 Senior Sister. 

You will be expected to be able to work as part of a team, have excellent communication skills, be highly motivated and enthusiastic and keen to develop knowledge and skills around Senior leadership and  specialised surgery.

  • Managerial responsibility for the Nursing team within the Unit 
  • Admission of elective patients
  • Nurse led discharge of day case patients
  • Caring of pre-operative and post -operative of a variety of surgical patients.
