Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Midwife for Complex Care Needs to join the maternity team at UHNM. This is new and innovative role that will allow the Lead Midwife for Complex care to develop a team to provide continuity of carer for women and birthing people during the antenatal and postnatal period.
You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to address and reduce health inequalities for a cohort of women that includes, care of young people under 16 years, those birthing people seeking asylum and also people with a Learning disability.
We are looking for someone to be an advocate for this cohort of women and birthing people and to have a genuine passion for improving outcomes.
Main duties of the job
1. The lead midwife has designated responsibility for the management of the specialist team for women and birthing people with complex needs based at Royal Stoke and County Hospital and within the community. The scope of the caseload will include, but is not limited to, women and birthing people with complex needs including care of young pregnant people under 16 years, women and birthing people seeking asylum and women and birthing people with a Learning Disability.
2. The lead midwife will lead and facilitate innovative and evidence based midwifery practice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team by motivating staff, articulating vision and encouraging creativity within maternity services.
3. The lead midwife will act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower staff to develop both personally and professionally and achieve their maximum potential.
4. The lead midwife will have a responsibility to facilitate the collection of data and ensure that audit information is utilised to improve the efficiency of the service to incorporate new ways of working where necessary.
5. Ensure that all staff is aware of and practice within Trust Health and Safety policy and guidelines and adhering to risk management strategies. Implement Trust policies relating to Child Protection and work closely with the multidisciplinary agencies and provide support for Staff.
Participate in the on call rota for homebirth and escalation purposes.
