An exciting new opportunity has arisen following investment by the Trust into Pharmacy Cancer Services

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Cancer Pharmacy Team to support and assist the supply of medication to this speciality

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

The Pharmacy Senior Assistant Technical Officer will be working at ward level carrying out medicines management duties such as assessing patients own medication for use, transferring medicines between wards when patients relocate, facilitating patient discharge and ordering patient specific medicines in order to reduce missed doses.

You will be based in the Cancer Centre Pharmacy at the Royal Stoke site and as a member of the Cancer Pharmacy Team you will be integral to the delivery of high quality pharmacy services to our patients

You will be supporting  both the in-patient and out-patient wards

You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be well organised, have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be able to adapt to changing demands, be able to work accurately and under pressure and be committed to providing a high quality patient focused service.

  • To support the pharmacy ward teams with the principles and implementation of medicines optimisation –           
  • Aim to understand the patients experience
  • Evidence based choice of medicines
  • Ensure medicines use is as safe as possible
  • Make medicines optimisation part of routine practice
  • To deliver a service which is patient centred

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 4 GCSEs grade C (new grading 4) or above or equivalent must include Maths, English and Science
  • NVQ Level 2 in pharmacy services OR equivalent relevant qualification to area of speciality AND willingness to work towards NVQ L2 in pharmacy services

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Has basic IT skills and able to use Microsoft applications
  • Experience of working with standard operating procedures
  • Team working
  • At least one year’s experience in a similar role
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of dealing with customers and difficult queries.
