Job overview

Are you a dietitian who wishes to further consolidate their practice in community dietetics? The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the University Hospital of North Midlands is looking to recruit a dietitian to support the provision of a specialist community dietetic service in North Staffordshire.  The post holder will primarily be based at the Royal Stoke University hospital within the Dietetics Department which is supported by an administration team.  The post holder will be part of a team that deliver a range of dietetic clinical duties for adults, providing care in a range of out-patient settings including out-patient clinic at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, GP care settings, nursing homes and patient’s own homes.  We welcome applicants who have a broad range of experience working within the community setting.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as a specialised community dietitian to provide a dietetic service for out-patient clinics which will consist of a diverse caseload, incorporating nutritional support, frailty, weight reduction, diabetes, neurological conditions, gastrointestinal disorders and respiratory conditions.  The post holder will work with key members of primary and secondary care to provide advice, support and care plans to patient within the relevant identified specialist field.  Additional duties will include supporting the training of student dietitians in addition to providing training, education and specialist advice for patients and health professionals.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

 

●           The post holder will deliver specialised dietetic services to patients, using a wide range of appropriate and sensitive communication skills and counselling, and behaviour change techniques. Frequently dealing with a wide spectrum of medical conditions and, therefore, nutritional diagnoses and dietary interventions

 

●           The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing dietetic input, liaising with other disciplines and agencies as required in planning and implementing patient care.

 

 

●           The post holder will maintain accurate and detailed records with regards to patients as required both internally and with other services and compliant with local and professional record keeping standards including automated information systems in your work in order to improve quality and co-ordination of services and be responsible for the quality of data you produce.

 

●           Carries out requests for work in primary care settings that arise to support the wider work of the department, and gives support as required to the development of nutrition services that address health inequalities.

 

●           The post holder will support guidelines and policies that are developed to promote safe nutritional care and meet CQC and the Trust quality and safety agenda.

             

●           The post holder will support the development of quality standards and procedures within the department, and participate in regular audit of service against departmental and Trust quality standards.

 

●           The post holder provides education sessions to staff including nursing, medical and other AHP Staff, catering teams and patients.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered dietitian (with relevant BSc, postgraduate diploma or masters leading to eligibility for registration with Health Care Professions Council.
  • Low FODMAP training or willingness to undertake training
Desirable criteria
  • Student supervision training
  • Training in behaviour therapy, motivational interviewing or equivalent

Experience and skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate relevant dietetic work experience within the adult community dietetics including out-patient clinics.
  • Experience of working with patients with gut disorders such as IBS and coeliac disease
  • Experience of working in different NHS settings
  • Be able to attend sites at UHNM for mandatory face to face training

Personal qualities

Essential criteria
  • Be able to travel within North Staffordshire
Desirable criteria
  • Access to car for work purposes and hold full UK driving licence
