Senior Audiologist

Job overview

The post holder will lead complex adult audiology clinics including management of patients with troublesome tinnitus. In addition, the role will involve working autonomously in paediatric clinics for over three year olds. The post holder will draw on their skills and previous experience to deliver these clinics by performing specialised Audiological procedures using technical equipment, fine manipulative skills and dexterity. They must plan rehabilitative models of intervention based on information gained from patients and complex test results.

Main duties of the job

  • Perform a variety of standard and specialist assessment procedures on the adult complex clinic to evaluate rehabilitation requirements, including but not limited to patients with auditory processing disorders, profound hearing loss, sudden onset hearing loss and cochlear implant candidates and develop individual patient management plans to support their therapy.
  • Ensure all clinical assessments undertaken comply with national recommended procedures and conform to local and national protocols where appropriate
  • Identify requirements and make arrangements for additional
    support/clinical opinion and make appropriate onward referrals to ENT/mental health services/social services/MRI/Hearing therapist/balance clinic/Auditory Implant Programme
  • Perform hearing assessments on adults with learning difficulties, mental health diagnosis and dual sensory impairment. Assess amplification requirements and effectively communicate management options with the patient, carer and defer to lead specialist Audiologist in Learning Disability.
  • Communicate effectively and in line with information governance protocols third party stakeholders including social services, educational audiologists, ENT, GP, speech and language therapists advanced nurse practitioners,

  • Identify requirements and make arrangements for additional
    support/clinical opinion and make appropriate onward referrals to ENT/mental health services/social services/MRI/Hearing therapist/balance clinic/Auditory Implant Programme
  • Perform hearing assessments on adults with learning difficulties, mental health diagnosis and dual sensory impairment. Assess amplification requirements and effectively communicate management options with the patient, carer and defer to lead specialist Audiologist in Learning Disability.
  • Communicate effectively and in line with information governance protocols third party stakeholders including social services, educational audiologists, ENT, GP, speech and language therapists advanced nurse practitioners,
  • Perform audiological assessments on children in the Tier 2 clinic, using ability- appropriate tests, follow local protocols and patient pathways in relation to the Audiology-led Glue ear service with indirect supervision from the Lead Audiologist.
  • Assist with assessment of patients attending the paediatric complex audiology clinic using a variety of test methods including VRA, performance testing speech audiometry and objective testing
  • Assist in the selection, fitting or exchange of non- standard hearing aid
