Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join the Pharmacy Procurement and Stores team as a Senior Pharmacy Technician. This position is a permanent post within the Stores and Distribution area of pharmacy with involvement with procurement activities.
The main duties of this position is to facilitate the maintenance of stock within the department which include overseeing regular stock takes. To develop reports and data sets for inhouse and external benchmarking e.g. performance and activity reports. The post holder will be required to work as part of the procurement and stores teams to support the delivery of effective stock management for the Trust.
Investigation of and stock discrepancies will form part of the role where the individual will link in with the necessary stake holders to take corrective action as required. UHNM pharmacy department will have a new automated dispensing system installed in 2026 therefore the post holder will be heavily involved with the management of this system. They will also be required to link in with internal and external stakeholders to support the provision of Good Distribution Practices and support MHRA inspections for Wholesaler Distribution Authority. This will include preparation work, and any corrective actions post inspection.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NVQ level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services or National BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent nationally recognised qualification plus accredited underpinning knowledge
- Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- National Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification
Desirable criteria
- Member of the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK
- A1 NVQ Assessor Qualification or willing to undertake
- IT or computer sciences qualification
Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience
Essential criteria
- Recent experience working within Procurement and Stock Control
- Recent experience working as a Pharmacy Technician
- Commitment and evidence of professional updating and continuous professional development
- Experience of supervising staff
- Experience of multidisciplinary and/or collaborative working.
- Experience of working with a Pharmacy computer system e.g. JAC or EMIS (ASCRIBE)
- Experience of working with Pharmacy automated dispensing units e.g. pharmacy robot, Omnicell
- Evidence of contributing to the training and development of staff.
- Knowledge of a hospital dispensary service
- Knowledge of stock take procedures.
- Must be able to generate reports and interpret data relating to medicines ordering/usage and service productivity.
- Demonstrated ability to develop new processes and/or implement change
Desirable criteria
- Experience of leading and managing a team
- Experience of working in a medicines distribution service with a MHRA wholesaler dealer’s licence.
- Experience of negotiating with healthcare staff, suppliers and/or external organisations
- Experience of writing / updating procedures and training documentation
- Knowledge of Good Distribution Practice (GDP)
- Knowledge of MHRA Wholesaler Dealer’s Authorisation requirements and demonstrates experience assuring compliance.
- Evidence of line-managing employees and leading a service (in leadership or deputy role)
