We are looking to recruit a highly motivated individual to join our well established team in Pharmacy Technical Services for maternity leave cover.

The MHRA licenced ‘Specials’ pharmacy manufacturing unit is based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital and is a modern purpose built unit within the hospital. The service encompasses aseptic, chemotherapy and pre-pack (over labelling and repackaging products) supplying both the Trust and external organisations. As a department we constantly strive to re-engineer our services to improve our delivery of patient focused pharmaceutical care and customer satisfaction.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and self-motivated Advanced Assistant Technical Officer to work with our team in Pharmacy Technical Services.

The successful candidate will work within our Aseptic and Chemotherapy unit and will be required to set up and prepare medicines made within Pharmacy Technical Services. The post holder will be expected to understand and follow standard operating procedures.

Ther role includes undertaking relevant training, both external and internal in aspects of Pharmacy Services and associated technical activities where required.

In addition, the post holder will be required to assist with the operation and maintenance of quality systems ensuring compliance with the terms of the MHRA Manufacturing “Specials” Licence regarding all compounding and manufacturing processes.

Essential Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BTEC or NVQ level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services or equivalent
  • Or NVQ level 2 in Pharmaceutical Services or Pharmacy manufacturing with additional substantial experience equivalent to BTEC or NVQ3
  • Or Degree in a relevant related science
  • Four GCSE’s grade C/4 or above (including English, Maths and Science)
Desirable criteria
  • A levels in a science related field
  • APDM via Leeds University / TSET or equivalent

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial recent experience of working as an SATO within an aseptic unit preparing injectable medicines
  • Stock control experience
  • Team Working
  • Experience of working with standard operating procedures
  • Preparation of aseptic products, including chemotherapy, CIVAs and monoclonal antibodies
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous manufacturing experience at an NHS MHRA licensed facility.
  • Training in Good Clinical Trials Practice (GCP)
  • Knowledge of current advances/issues within aseptic services
  • Evidence of interest in new ways of working and developing specialist knowledge in a specialist area of practice
