We are looking to recruit a highly motivated individual to join our well established team in Pharmacy Technical Services for maternity leave cover.
The MHRA licenced ‘Specials’ pharmacy manufacturing unit is based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital and is a modern purpose built unit within the hospital. The service encompasses aseptic, chemotherapy and pre-pack (over labelling and repackaging products) supplying both the Trust and external organisations. As a department we constantly strive to re-engineer our services to improve our delivery of patient focused pharmaceutical care and customer satisfaction.
Main duties of the job
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and self-motivated Advanced Assistant Technical Officer to work with our team in Pharmacy Technical Services.
The successful candidate will work within our Aseptic and Chemotherapy unit and will be required to set up and prepare medicines made within Pharmacy Technical Services. The post holder will be expected to understand and follow standard operating procedures.
The role includes undertaking relevant training, both external and internal in aspects of Pharmacy Services and associated technical activities where required.
In addition, the post holder will be required to assist with the operation and maintenance of quality systems ensuring compliance with the terms of the MHRA Manufacturing “Specials” Licence regarding all compounding and manufacturing processes.

Essential Qualifications
Essential criteria
- A degree in a relevant science related to pharmacy or a BTEC / NVQ3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences
- Registered or eligible for registration with an appropriate professional body, for example, Royal Society of Chemistry, Institute of Biology, Science Council, GPhC
- Commitment and evidence of continuous professional development
Desirable criteria
- Training in Good Clinical Trials Practice and ICH
Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post qualification experience of working within a laboratory/ pharmacy manufacturing environment.
- Computer literate with good general keyboard skills, for using the pharmacy computer systems, including ordering, receiving and stock and rectifying stock discrepancies.
- Literate and numerate.
- Ability to work well with all colleagues as part of a team
- Knowledge of hospital pharmacy practice including current initiatives relating to Technical Services
- Understanding of GMP
- Must be able to adhere to standard operating procedures and UHNM policies
Desirable criteria
- Previous manufacturing experience at an NHS aseptic facility or pharmaceutical industry
- Awareness of Health and Safety and COSHH issues
- Evidence of interest in new ways of working and developing specialist knowledge in a specialist area of practice

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
