Midwife- Complex Care

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Midwife with an interest in Complex Care Needs to join the maternity team at UHNM. This is new and innovative role that will allow the Midwife to provide continuity of carer for women and birthing people during the antenatal and postnatal period.

You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to address and reduce health inequalities for a cohort of women that includes, but not limited to, care of young people under 16 years, those birthing people seeking asylum, people with a Learning Disability and other hard to reach communities. 

We are looking for someone to be an advocate for this cohort of women and birthing people and to have a genuine passion for improving outcomes.

Main duties of the job

·       Maintain competence in providing midwifery care.

·       Promote normality in childbirth, taking account of the woman’s individual needs and risk factors, escalating any deviations from the normal.

·       Ensure women and their partners are provided with the information necessary for them to make informed decisions about their care.

·       Act as an advocate for women and birthing people. 

·       Ensure practice meets the requirements of a practising midwife in accordance with the Nursing & Midwifery Council’s Midwives Rules & Standards & Code of Professional Conduct.

·       Ensure practice and conduct is guided by Trust policies and guidelines.

·       Ensure all records and documentation including any electronic records, are accurate, legible and completed in a timely manner.

·       Take responsibility for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programs of care both according to unit policies and research in a hospital or community setting

·       Provide appropriate counselling and able to cope with highly distressing or emotional circumstances. Guide and support junior staff in this situation.

·       Participate in the Trust on call rota for homebirth and escalation
