Deputy Ward Manager, Ward 2 Harplands Hospital – 12 months fixed term contract
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Ward Manager on Ward 2, Harplands Hospital. This vacancy would suit someone who has gained experience as a Staff Nurse and is looking to progress in their career. As a Registered Nurse you will be responsible for supporting your Manager in ensuring that our service users’ needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care. As a centre of excellence, you will offer a person-centred approach to their independence and well-being.
Ward 2 is an acute ward for males of working age. We offer assessment and initial treatment for males with a variety of mental health needs, and work closely with other services to ensure ongoing recovery. We pride ourselves in offering intuitive, person centred interventions and we keep people at the heart of everything we do.
Main duties of the job
The role of the Deputy Ward Manager on Ward 2 is to provide support and assistance to the Ward Manager in ensuring the effective management and running of the service. This will include having specific responsibilities as delegated by the Ward Manager and will require the post holder to deputise for the Ward Manager as and when appropriate/required. You will be required to maintain a high standard of clinical work when carrying out nursing procedures, ensuring compliance with our clinical governance framework. You will support the Ward Manager in motivating colleagues, champion service user safety and dignity and drive continuous improvement.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key Duties/Responsibilities:
- To act as a clinical lead influencing and developing all aspects of clinical care within the area and implementing clinical governance plans.
- Co-ordinate care delivery, e.g. allocations of named nurse/name worker/care co-ordinator, ensuring continuity of care across shifts, staffing changes & absences etc.
- To demonstrate the application of appropriate procedures and standards.
- To assist in the general management of the clinical area, this may include specific duties such as responsibilities for completing duty sheets and being responsible for staff management this includes staff absence, annual leave and supporting staff clinically.
