Job overview

Senior Clinical Psychologist in Neuropsychology 

Band 8a (Candidates at Band 7 level will be considered for a preceptorship post)

27 hours per week (0.72 WTE)

We have an exciting vacancy within our very welcoming and friendly, research active, large and ever-growing Team at Combined Healthcare, a CQC-rated ‘Outstanding’ Mental Health Trust. Posts are available due to staffing reorganisation and will be based within our outpatient services, including community stroke (1 day per week), long-covid team/neurocommunity MDT provision (just over 2.5 days pw). The post will be largely clinic-based at the Bennett Centre with the provision for some (community stroke team) home visits.

The post would be suitable for a newly qualified clinical psychologist, or candidates already at/about to reach Band 8a competencies. The role involves contributing to the assessment, formulation and treatment of patients with acquired brain injuries and other neurological conditions. Opportunities aplenty will be available for individual, peer and group supervision (in line with BPS requirements), accessing CPD, research and audit, and service development.

There is some flexibility to allow home working for part of the week, depending on service need. 

(For preceptorship posts, Band 8a will be considered after successful completion of 24 months in the Band 7 preceptorship role)

Main duties of the job

Core features of the roles will include:

·         Working alongside a Senior/Principal Psychologist/Consultant Neuropsychologist and Multi-Disciplinary Teams to provide high quality psychological formulation and intervention for patients

·         Administration, scoring, interpretation, report-writing and feeding back of neuropsychological assessments, screening tools and outcome measures

·         Providing structured interventions under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist / Clinical Neuropsychologist

·         Working with people who have complex needs which can present/lead to challenging situations or behaviours and risk.

·         Contributing to service development and evaluation projects

·         Offering group interventions

·         Previous experience of working with adults with physical, cognitive or mental health problems is essential.

·         Previous experience of working in a multidisciplinary team would be an advantage.

·         In person and remote (online and telephone) patient sessions

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·         Deliver neuropsychologically-informed assessment, rehabilitation and individual/group psychological interventions

·         Working under the supervision of a Senior/Principal Clinical Psychologist / Neuropsychologist.

·         May be required to work with clients who are highly distressed, anxious or hostile and will experience sensitive situations frequently.

·         Will be required to offer some client home visits

·         Working independently, with regular supervision

·         Contribute to/conduct audits and service evaluation/research projects

·         Contributing to teaching and training

·         Good organisational skills as well as an ability to work to deadlines and produce high quality work

·         The ability to cope with psychologically distressing patient information is essential.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical / counselling psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
  • Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registration as a clinical/counselling practitioner psychologist

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of joint working with statutory, voluntary and private sector agencies
  • Research and development
  • Quality and service improvement and evaluation
Desirable criteria
  • Working as a qualified applied psychologist within the designated service including a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and a range of clinical severity across a range of care settings.
