Main duties of the job
To ensure the delivery of clinically high quality and financially sustainable services and creating a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
The Chief Medical Officer will have responsibility for the professional leadership of the medical workforce and setting the vision for medical practice, research and innovation.
The Chief Medical Officer and Chief Nurse hold a shared responsibility for patient safety and clinical governance.
It is envisaged that the vast majority of the post holder’s time will be spent on Executive Director duties but by agreement a percentage of clinical work will be accommodated.
Working as Chief Medical Officer, the post holder will be a member of the Executive Director Team of the Trust helping to shape the strategic direction, culture and vision of the Trust.
The Chief Medical Officer will personally lead the Trust’s Clinical Engagement efforts; actively seeking the views of, respond to, engage with and influence medical staff within the Trust.
The Chief Medical Officer will facilitate, united and collaborative working within UHNM and with other partners across the Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Integrated Care System. To take a lead across the Staffordshire and Stoke Integrated Care System in respect of management of the local health and social care system.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration with entry onto the specialist or GP register
Desirable criteria
- Management qualification (e.g. MBA) or equivalent experience, including leadership development.
Experience

- Experience in a senior clinical management position at or close to Board level.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of NHS drivers and implications for the Trust and its services.
Desirable criteria
- Experience/ knowledge of public involvement, engagement and consultation.
Skills

- Ability to work creatively and prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.

- Ability to diffuse and manage conflict.
