Applications are invited for the post of Senior Training Fellow Doctor Child Health. This is an opportunity to gain paediatric/neonatal experience in a busy Unit at the Royal Stoke University Hospital
The post holder will gain good experience in general paediatrics working in the Children’s Assessment Unit (CAU), wards and children’s outpatient clinics and the Neonatal unit.
We are part of the Child Health Directorate, which is one of the largest in the country, with many paediatric sub specialties receiving tertiary care referrals including paediatric gastroenterology services, respiratory, haematology-oncology, diabetes and endocrinology, rheumatology, epilepsy and neurology, community paediatrics, paediatric intensive care.

The post holder will gain good experience in general paediatrics working in the Children’s Assessment Unit (CAU), wards, Paediatric Critical Care Unit and children’s outpatient clinics.

University Hospitals of North Midlands has two sites: Royal Stoke University Hospital, located in Stoke-on-Trent, and County Hospital, located in Stafford. From these hospitals we provide a full range of general acute hospital services for people living in and around Staffordshire and beyond. Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To comply with all GMC regulations as laid out in “Good Medical Practice”
To observe the Trust’s agreed policies and procedures, in particular in relation to managing staff, and to follow
the Trust’s Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions. These policies and procedures have been
drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters.
To take responsibility for your own Health & Safety complying with any safe working arrangements, policies
and procedures which are in place.
To comply with all Trust requirements of appraisal, assessment and of the proposed medical training
programme as stipulated by the programme leads.
To compete Trust general and local induction
To work appropriately and effectively within your clinical team within the limits of your competency under
clinical and educational supervision.
In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, and commensurate with your grade, to play a full part in
the supervision and support of other members of your team including more junior medical staff.
In conjunction with colleagues, to take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other
resources to ensure the maximum efficiency of the department.
In conjunction with colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met and to take part
in medical audit and research as appropriate.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent
- Full GMC Registration
- APLS provider status
- Awards/distinctions whilst studying for 1st
- Safeguarding Level 3 training
Desirable criteria
- MRCPCH examination
- Awards/distinctions whilst studying for 1st
- Academic and extracurricular achievements
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience at ST3 Paediatrics and above level
- Ability to work on the middle grade rota in General Paediatrics
Desirable criteria
- Ability to work on the middle grade rota on the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit
Skills
Essential criteria
- Proven ability to work as a member of a team is workloads effectively and cope under pressure is crucial.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, senior medical staff and other health professionals is vital.
- Proficient and efficient handling of medical problems with evidence of safe sound practical procedures
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of changes occurring in NHS as a whole and its impact on speciality work
- Awareness of the importance of clinical governance
Personal Characteristics
Essential criteria
- Evidence of continuing professional updating
- Highly motivated individual
- Demonstrates a clear reason for wanting this rotation
- Certificate of Good Standing from current medical council and references from institutional email ID of referees will be required.
