Job overview

The successful candidate will provide clinical management leadership and set strategic direction’ within the directorate, in line with the Care Group’s strategy, ensuring that high quality and timely care of patients remains the highest priority.

The Clinical Director will be expected to take responsibility for performance delivery and performance management of medical staff, including job planning of clinicians. They will share responsibility for the Imaging budget and efficient deployment of the Clinical Business Unit’s resources with the Head of Operations and Head of Nursing. The Clinical Director will lead on the productivity and efficiency of the department medical workforce and share responsibility for the productivity and efficiency of the department’s other associated workforce members.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Director will work as part of a multidisciplinary directorate leadership team with responsibility for Clinical Governance within the Department. The Clinical Director and directorate leadership team will work together to develop and implement the strategic and operational plans of the Department in line with the overall Care Group and Trust strategies.
They will also contribute strategically as a member of the Trust’s senior management and to attend the Trust leadership forums to provide information on the Department’s performance.

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Qualified Clinical Practitioner at a senior level e.g. but not limited to: Medical Consultant, Nurse Consultant / SAS Doctor
  • Full registration with GMC/Professional Body/NMC/HPC
  • Specialty qualifications or specialty accreditation
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of Leadership or Management Development

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of assessing and managing risk associated with service change
  • Experience of implementing/facilitating Service improvements
  • Evidence of working in partnership with internal and external stakeholders
  • Awareness of the NHS agenda at a national and local level
  • Evidence of effective Resource Management
