Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for 3 x  12 month fixed term post to work as a Locum Consultant within Emergency Medicine at UHNM. 

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the substantive Consultant, Middle Grade and Junior Medical teams to deliver a high quality and timely service to the local population. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to shape and contribute to the development of the service. They will also work closely with the current team of consultant colleagues and participate in a 1 in 6 weekend rota.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will provide clinical leadership within the Emergency Department at UHNM. You will be expected to work with other members of the Emergency Medicine team to provide first class clinical care in Adult and Paediatric Emergency Medicine across both Royal Stoke and County Hospitals. You will provide clinical leadership, including delivery of the Clinical Quality Indicators (CQI) for Emergency Medicine.

We are recognised for our particular expertise in trauma, respiratory conditions, spinal surgery, upper gastro-intestinal surgery, complex orthopaedic surgery, laparoscopic surgery and the management of liver conditions. Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBCHB or equivalent
  • FRCEM or equivalent or working towards
  • ALS or equivalent
  • ATLS certification
  • APLS certification
Desirable criteria
  • European Trauma course
  • Full GMC registration Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry via: - • CCT within 6 months of date of the AAC • CESR

Professional and Multidisciplinary Team Working

Essential criteria
  • Thorough and detailed knowledge of medical audit, medical education, current clinical and medical best practice
  • Broad clinical experience within Emergency Medicine within the NHS
Desirable criteria
  • Further skills in information technology

Academic Achievements, Research, Publications

Desirable criteria
  • Undertaken complete audit cycle
  • Interest and awareness of research

Management and Administrative Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experienced in demonstrating clinical procedures / techniques to other healthcare professionals
  • Appraisal and assessment training skills

Clinical Experience & Training

Essential criteria
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in relevant specialty
  • Broad clinical experience within Emergency Medicine
