Children's Nutrition Nurse Specialist

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Children's Nutrition Nurse Specialist at Staffordshire Children's Hospital at Royal Stoke. The post will be for a fixed term for 14 months. 

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with the knowledge and experience to further expand/develop a comprehensive highly specialised service which delivers nursing care, support and expert advice to children and their families requiring nutritional support and gastroenterology services. 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will act as the key worker and will liaise with other healthcare professionals to provide the best possible specialist care for their patients. Ensuring seamless, quality service is developed for patient requiring nutritional support in the hospital and the community. They will be responsible for the clinical care of patients on enteral and parenteral nutrition and also the educational development of nursing colleagues. 

The post holder will act as an expert resource and will take an active part in providing training, counselling and support to patient and their families receiving nutritional therapy. 

The post holder will  have their own caseload and take the lead role in coordinating care, providing training and support. The post holder may be required to undertake visits to children in the community and to other areas as required. 

The post holder will run nurse led clinics for patient requiring nutritional support.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse on NMC Register
  • Degree in Nursing or health/Nursing related studies at Level 3 or Masters.
  • Evidence of attendance/certificate re: accredited course in Clinical Nutrition for children.
Desirable criteria
  • Independent Nurse Prescriber.

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 3 years post registration experience to include 1 year management/leadership
  • Advanced knowledge and experience of providing expert advice, guidance, training and counselling to patients requiring nutrition support.
Desirable criteria
  • Phlebotomy and Cannulation skills
