Job overview

We are looking for an experienced Mental Health Nurse Prescriber to join our Multi-Disciplinary Team. Our team includes as mix of Psychiatrists, Nursing, Social work, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, and support staff.

Deliver, as part of wider Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) high quality, timely and comprehensive mental health service for children and young people (CYP) with a range of complex mental health needs. To focus on evidence-based bio-psychosocial assessment and nursing specialist interventions, working towards evidence-based recovery. Ensuring the nursing profession is represented within the Multi-disciplinary approach to care. To provide the co-ordination and collaboration in meeting the needs for a defined caseload working directly with CYP, their families/carers and external agencies .

Main duties of the job

  • To provide specialist assessments of children and young people, based upon the appropriate use, interpretation & integration of complex data from a variety of sources.
  • To be responsible for implementing a range of clinical interventions for children and their families, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining formulations drawing upon different explanatory models.
  • To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options based on theoretical and therapeutic models and complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
  • To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of children and families.
  • To provide specialist advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to clients’ formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • To contribute directly and indirectly to improving the understanding of child and adolescent mental health.
  • To offer medication interventions where appropriate.

The post holder:

  • Will take a lead role in the development of clinical services for young people accessing CAMHS services, including those identified as requiring additional consultation.
  • would be an essential nursing member of the MDT and will be able to facilitate the co-ordination of care on a multi-disciplinary basis

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse Trained to degree level or equivalent.
  • Non-medical prescriber V300 or working towards this
Desirable criteria
  • Additional qualification in Child & Adolescent Mental Health, inclusive of but not limited to: CYP IAPT, CBT, CBTp, Family interventions, CAT, DBT etc
  • Recognised appropriate qualification in mentoring/assessing/ supporting students in placement

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of extensive post registration experience working with those who may experience complex mental health needs in the community setting and working in an MDT
  • Experience of working with people who have difficulty in engaging with services and have complex mental health needs requiring care coordination and autonomous working
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of assessing and managing complex needs, including risk within a structured framework such as CPA/Safeguarding Children and familiarity in working in CAMHS
  • Experience of effectively managing mental health related (2) issues/referrals/need for advice face to face and virtually including telephone at times of high demand and in relation to highly stressful/emotive situations
