Main duties of the job

To provide and maintain high levels of care within the Endoscopy Unit, the post holder will assist with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy procedures, assess and monitor patients undergoing endoscopic procedures and provide care for patients pre and post procedure.

There will be a variety of shifts, including some evenings and weekends, in order to help meet government and Trust targets.

The post holder will be expected to participate in emergency out of hours on-call rota.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

KEY TASKS:-

Maintain a high standard of patient care. Be able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.

 

To ensure individual assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care from admission to discharge or transfer, producing documented evidence of this in electronic format.

 

To provide technical assistance during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ensuring safe working practice by following agreed guidelines.

 

Works collaboratively with the inter-professional team, other staff in the department and other professionals that they may come into contact within the trust; always ensuring that they are professional and courteous.

 

Able to respond to emergency situations that may arise in the department, such as, major haemorrhage, cardiac arrest or fire.

 

To participate in the care and maintenance of endoscopes and other specialised equipment, ensuring decontamination guidelines and policies are always followed.

 

To maintain active status on NMC register, producing evidence of own continuing professional development.

 

To be aware of and demonstrate adherence to the Trust’s policies on infection control and waste disposal

 

Be accountable for own nursing practice; always adhering to NMC Code of Conduct and acting in a professional manner

 

Manages own time and responds to unexpected demands in a professional manner.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registration
  • BLS
  • ENB 998 or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Willingness to teach both formally and informally.
  • ILS

Experience and Knowledge

  • Previous experience of working in a speciality area
