Senior Children's Community Nurse

Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to gain experience in the Community Children’s Nursing Team who provide high quality evidence-based practice in the community, to children who have a clinical nursing need.
Band 6 role.
The team provides a 7-day service, 08.00-18.00 weekdays and 09.00-17.00 at weekends/bank holidays.
The successful candidate will need to be a good team player, hold a full driving licence and their own vehicle, and be prepared to travel throughout the West Suffolk area.
The post would be fixed term for a year from March 2026 - March 2027 covering maternity leave and is based in the Bury St Edmunds office.
Full and part-time positions will be considered.
Main duties are to oversee a caseload and provide clinical nursing care to children in the community including administering IVAB's, NG support, Wound care, Injections, Central line care etc.

Main duties of the job
JOB PURPOSE:
· To work within the framework of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct.
· To undertake on-going training required to be clinically competent in caring for children with both complex/chronic and acute health care needs and their family.
· Proactively participate in the creation of a dynamic flexible and responsive environment through effective communication and contribution of ideas.
· Planning, implementation and evaluation of holistic programmes of care.
· Educate the child, parents and carers in the promotion of health and the prevention of ill health.
· Demonstrate and teach clinical procedures to parents/carers to enable them to contribute to the planned programme of care. To alleviate potential stress, and to prevent inappropriate admissions to hospital.
· Be responsible for the day-to-day clinical management of the service including delegating tasks, supervising junior staff and ensuring patient safety.
· Ensure the needs of children/young people and parents/carers are met at all times.
· Create an environment which recognises parents/carers as key members of a care package and is sensitive and responsive to their needs, allowing for the development of their unique relationship with their child/young person.

STAFF CAR PARKING
Staff Car Parking on the West Suffolk Hospital Site is eligible for individuals working outside of the core hours, 07:00 – 18:30.
For individuals working within the core hours, the Trust offers parking off site at the Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club, which is serviced by a regular shuttle bus to and from the Hospital. Details of the bus timetable can be found in the on-line starter pack on the West Suffolk Hospital website.
This parking restriction does not apply if an individual is required to work on a weekend or if they are required to complete “on call” duties within their role.

Essential criteria
- RN – Child Branch
- RSCN Diploma/Degree
- Evidence of further study at degree/masters’ level
Desirable criteria
- Specialist Practice Community Children Nursing Degree or equivalent
- Teaching and assessing Qualification
Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 2 years post registration experience in acute or community setting
- Teaching of junior staff/children and families in clinical tasks and health promotion
- Working in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team
- Family-centered care
- Excellent knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures
Desirable criteria
- Recruitment experience
- Experience of service user engagement and patient satisfaction
- Clinical audit and implementing change
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Sound clinical knowledge and competency in a wide variety of clinical skills i.e., intravenous therapy, wound care, enteral feeding
- Management experience including the day-to-day clinical management of a team within the acute or community setting
- Understanding of effective service development and ways in which to improve clinical care
- Nursing care of children in the community setting
