Job overview

We are looking for an passionate Audiologist to join our Audiology team, based at the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.

The successful candidate will assist in the provision of an effective audiology service across all West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust sites.

Applicants must possess BSc in Audiology or equivalent; you must hold or be working towards professional registration. You must also have experience using Digital Hearing Aids.

We are keen to hear from candidates with experience of Auditbase patient management system but not essential.

You must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work both autonomously and as an effective team member.

The ability to travel between hospital sites is essential; therefore, a flexible, adaptable approach to work will also be required.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have autonomous responsibility for both routine and complex patients referred to the Department by the Direct GP Access route. This responsibility includes comprehensive assessment of the patient’s hearing difficulties, physical examination of the ears, full hearing assessment using appropriate techniques, diagnosis of condition, design of an appropriate treatment plan, decision regarding onward referral for medical intervention. They will work at West Suffolk Hospital site and peripheral Sites at Newmarket, Thetford, Sudbury, and other peripheral sites as required.

Communication:

  • To liaise as necessary with all referring agents, patients, and family members/next of kin, internal and external stakeholders.

Analytical and judgemental:

  • To assist with data collection and analysis as necessary and when required.
  • Planning and organisational Skills
  • To be involved with data collection and stock control within the Department.
  • To be involved with training projects within the department.
  • Organising clinical and non-clinical services for CPD and ongoing mandatory training.

Clinical Duties:

  • To work independently in a community setting – usually involving all aspects of aural rehabilitation.
  • To provide autonomous specialist evaluation and treatment for patients suffering from tinnitus and Hyperacusis.
  • To manage patient treatment and ongoing care
  • To manage diagnostic assessments
  • To carry out independently pure tone Audiometry, admittance, and acoustic reflex testing in support of ENT Outpatient and other hospital or community-based clinics.
  • To carry out more complex audiometric investigations for patients with specialist needs such as one-sided deafness and sever to profound hearing loss.
  • To carry out all aspects of routine and complex hearing aid fittings and follow up, including the decision to provide CROS or non-standard hearing systems, using real ear measurement systems, giving advice on environmental aids and counselling where indicated.

Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Hon) Audiology or equivalent qualification enabling registration.
  • A post graduate diploma in Audiology or evidence of attendance at relevant M level modules in tinnitus, Hyperacusis and rehabilitation.
  • Evidence of relevant knowledge development in all areas of the advertised role.
  • Trained in Digital Hearing Aid Services
Desirable criteria
  • Professional Membership: BAA/BSA
  • HNC or equivalent in MPPM/RCCP

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate the development of knowledge and skills to a specialist level.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience and training gained through attending courses.
  • Experience in using Auditbase.
  • Experience in taking stocks levels.
