Job overview

An exciting development opportunity has arisen to join our department of 44 Dietitians, Nurses, Dietetic Assistants and Administrators.  We provide a high-quality dietetic service to both the acute and the primary care sector in West Suffolk.  
We are looking to recruit a Secondment or Fixed term contract B7 dietitian who has a specialist interest in the management of both renal and oncology patients. They would work alongside supportive multidisciplinary teams in the outpatient dialysis department,  acute renal ward and community oncology team. 

Main duties of the job

The dietitian will provide an outpatient service that will include working an evening every other week with some flexibility to support twilight renal dialysis patients. The post holder will also provide some ward cover to support the other renal dietitian. From an oncology perspective, this post will support the Band 6 Community Oncology dietitian with the community caseload will take on a caseload of home enteral feeding oncology patients.

Job Summary:

·        To provide a high standard of evidence-based nutrition and dietetic care to renal outpatients, renal inpatients & oncology patients in a variety of locations including the renal inpatient ward, dialysis unit, community hospitals, outpatient locations including GP surgeries, patient’s own home and via remote home-working when appropriate.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Degree in Dietetics or equivalent
  • • Current HCPC registration
  • • Evidence of Continued Professional in following areas: Specialist training courses, attendance at specialist group meetings of BDA, attendance at relevant multi-disciplinary courses/conferences and experience of clinical audit or research
Desirable criteria
  • • Membership of BDA specialist group
  • • MSc in Nutrition/ Advanced Dietetic Practice OR equivalent clinical experience
  • • Evidence of Continued Professional Development in the following areas: Renal dietetics

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Experience of supervising students or junior staff
  • • Knowledge of clinical governance and risk issues
  • • Audit and research
  • • Experience of managing dietetic clinics autonomously
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience in the management of renal patients
  • • Experience in the management oncology patients
  • • Experience in a community setting
  • • Line management experience

Skills and abilities

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to work autonomously
  • • Highly developed communication and presentation skills
  • • Extensive knowledge and application of counselling skills/ motivational interviewing/ behavioural change strategies
  • • Excellent organisational and time management skills
Desirable criteria
  • • Ability to write guidelines in line with national and local guidance.
  • • Evidence of specialist training/ knowledge within an area of dietetics
