Digital Senior Project Manager

Job overview

We are looking to recruit  a Senior Project Manager to support projects and programmes within Digital Services.

Main duties of the job

As Senior Project Manager, the post holder will be responsible for the team of project managers and managing the delivery of new systems, infrastructure and business processes as part of the digital programme.

The Trust has standardised on the use of PRINCE2 project management methodology and all project managers must be qualified to at least practitioner level.

 

The senior project manager will be accountable for the projects that are delegated to other project managers to ensure that they are adequately planned, managed and monitored and will provide expert guidance and advice as required.

 

The post holder will be expected to deliver their own projects in addition to line management of the project management team, and work flexibly in accordance with the requirements of individual projects. You will be required to lead and be responsible for all aspects of the complete project lifecycle including management of the staffing and financial resources allocated to the project.

 

The post holder will be responsible for the production of business cases, including the identification and delivery of benefits planned to be realised during the course of the project.

Person specification

Education & Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent experience in senior project management role.
  • PRINCE2 practitioner or equivalent from a recognised professional body (e.g. APM, PMI)
  • Evidence of recent continuous professional development, particularly within project management, systems implementations, transformation, change management etc.
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification in other project management methodologies (e.g. MoR, MoV, MSP, Agile or P3O)
  • Professional membership (e.g. BCS)
  • Benefits management course

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Advanced knowledge in project management based on: extensive experience in successfully delivering projects across infrastructure and clinical systems, implementation and optimisation of digital solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge in project management based on: advanced professional knowledge of project management, including managing resources, budgets, deadlines and milestones across complex projects. Ability to identify risks and issues as they relate to projects.
  • Experience in staff and general team management.
  • Experience in benefits identification and management.
Desirable criteria
  • Programme management experience.
  • Good knowledge of business change techniques, ideally in a healthcare environment. Experience in an NHS or public sector setting.
  • Experience of writing project strategies including Communications, Configuration, Quality and Risk

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills. Highly articulate and able to express complex issues to a wide range of audiences.
  • Aptitude for sharing knowledge with team members both within the Trust and outside.
  • Able to develop business cases and manage complex/technical projects.

Personal Qualities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to motivate and empower others. Accountable for own actions and promotes good team working. Effective self-management and motivation.
  • Willingness to travel to other sites.
  • Able to work out of hours when required to support implementations.
