Job overview

We are seeking  Band 5 Preceptorship Midwives, who are committed to providing quality care to pregnant women and their families, to join our dedicated healthcare team at West Suffolk NHS Foundation trust, across both inpatient and outpatient areas.

You will work as part of our friendly team, providing care to women in the West Suffolk area. The post holder will be expected to work across both inpatient and outpatient areas as part of an integrated midwifery role. Working in a variety of settings, which will include all antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal and community services, maintaining skills in all aspects of midwifery care.

It is anticipated that the post holder will have advanced skills in the management of intrapartum care and sufficient experience as would be necessary to underpin changing practice. The post holder will be expected to rotate throughout the Unit, including day/night duty, on call duties and weekend shifts as deemed necessary by the Head of Midwifery, to ensure competence in all areas of midwifery practice. 

You will be provided with an induction programme and full training to fulfil the role requirements.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will be expected to work across both inpatient and outpatient areas as part of an integrated midwifery role. working in a variety of settings, which will include all antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal and community services, maintaining skills in all aspects of midwifery care.
  • The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating, planning, organising and directing activities to ensure optimum care is achieved and continued learning is created and maintained. 
  • The post holder will work where his/her caseload requires i.e. in a variety of settings, which will include all antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal and community services, maintaining skills in all aspects of midwifery care.  
  • Be conversant with safeguarding children procedures. Participate in planning meetings, conferences and pre-birth assessment and give appropriate feedback.
  • In liaison with the senior/lead midwives, ensure that midwifery practice is in keeping with current research findings and is appropriate for each individual woman for whom care is being provided. 
  • Work as a midwife, fulfilling the role as defined by the Nursing & Midwifery Council
